About Soroptimist International


The name 'Soroptimist' derives from the Latin soror meaning 'sister' and optima meaning 'best', and so is best translated as 'Best of sisters'.

The first club opened in the United States in 1921, followed by clubs in Great Britain and Europe. The organisation currently has over 3,000 clubs arranged in 4 geographical federations and is expanding, particularly in the developing world.
